Ionia Community Center | Kasilof, AK
Ionia Community Center is a multipurpose facility for an alternative community residing in Kasilof, Alaska. Klauder & Company designed the facility’s community meeting spaces, dining rooms, kitchen, recreational and educational spaces with an agrarian homestead life style in mind, emphasizing children as the first priority. Klauder & Company Architects worked closely with Bill Nelson to develop the exposed timber frame detailing.
An 11,810 SF custom log building. The facility features locally processed spruce log walls and structural log columns and beams, hand hewn wood guard rails, handcrafted wood floors and countertops, and two custom-built highly efficient masonry wood-fired stoves for heating and cooking. This beautifully crafted building houses family-style living and meeting rooms, arts and crafts studios, recreational areas, a movie room, overnight accommodations, a kitchen and a dining area.
